Phil Boyd, Assistant Commissioner

Phil Boyd, Assistant CommissionerPhil Boyd read English at Oxford University. He has worked for the Data Protection Registrar (now Information Commissioner) since 1990. As an Advice and Compliance Officer he was in charge of a small team responsible for developing Data Protection guidance in the direct marketing area and for ensuring compliance with the Act in this area.

From December of 1995, as a Senior Compliance Manager he led a team dealing with policy issues and complaints handling in the financial services sector. From December 1998 he had responsibilities in relation to the Education and Local Government sectors, for data matching throughout the public sector and for the electronic delivery of government services.

In August 2000 he was appointed Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for Data Protection and Freedom of Information throughout the public sector.
