Language is the house of
being ..................................................................Martin
Heidegger
In the spirit of the
Iranian Languages and Scripts ( IL&S ) site
Heidegger's above quote can be translated to mean:
Iranian languages make up the context
for the Iranian culture.
Therefore, to delve into the Iranian
culture one needs to inquire into its languages. The IL&S site
is engineered for just such inquiry. This site was originally
founded in 1998 by Dr. F. Zurvan as an elementary introduction to
IL&S. Since then a great deal of work has been done to enrich it
along the lines of the vision and goals stated below. We hope that
you enjoy browsing around.
The IL&S
vision:
To provide all users worldwide with the opportunity to access
a wide variety of high quality information, data, and tools for
deepening their knowledge and appreciation of the Iranian culture
and languages.
Goals of the IL&S site are to
deliver:
1. A one-stop source of information
regarding all modern and ancient Iranian languages and scripts.
2. A reading/browsing site for
documents, books, dictionaries, graphics, etc. related to Iran in
general, and Iranian languages in particular. 3. A Forum of interaction and
discussion among interested users. 4. An archive for the preservation of
the endangered Iranian languages and dialects. 5. A motivation for reducing the number
of foreign borrowed words in the Persian language by introducing or
reviving pure replacements. 6.
The opportunity to familiarize interested users in the Latin-based
phonetic Persian alphabet known as: UniversalPersian or . 7. Innovative software tools related to
various Iranian languages and alphabets.
