His Books
Writing as Cordwainer Smith, Carmichael Smith, Felix C.
Forrest, and himself, Paul M. A. Linebarger wrote not only
science fiction but a spy novel, mainstream novels, the
widely-used Psychological Warfare text, and numerous
scholarly books and papers related to his work as an expert in
Chinese government and politics. For where to get copies of
most of these books, see my Where You
Can Get Books.
The pages in this section describe his major works:
- The complete science fiction of Cordwainer
Smith was collected by NESFA (the New England Science
Fiction Association) into two carefully edited
hardcovers, The Rediscovery
of Man and Norstrilia. These are the
definitive editions.
- Writing as Carmichael Smith, he wrote a spy novel,
Atomsk, available as an ebook from
this site or as a used book from various vendors.
- He wrote two mainstream novels as Felix C. Forrest:
Ria and Carola.
- Writing in his own name, Paul M. A. Linebarger, he
wrote the classic Psychological Warfare.
- I edited a little comb-bound book of some of his letters, mostly to
me, and included a page that shows one
of them, in his distinctive handwriting.
Other, older paperbacks, such as The Best of
Cordwainer Smith, often turn up online. The
illustrated bibliography created
by Mike Bennett is useful for figuring these out,
especially the page that lists all the CS stories
and what books they appear in.
