About Information Technology Services-Medicine
Research and Communications
- ITS-Med's
Research and Communications office is responsible for (1) monitoring usage
of applications and services to enable ITS-Med to make decisions about
resource allocation and staff training, (2) evaluating clients' needs and
assessing their satisfaction with our services, and (3) establishing and
implementing communications procedures and strategies. Reports and surveys
that predate the establishment of this office in January, 1997 were conducted
under the auspices of
Yale's IAIMS initiative.

ITS-Med facts at a glance
Monthly
and annual reports
The
resources tracked in the monthly reports include calls to the Help Desk,
the number of personal computers, the number of networked computers, network
installations, and usage (of the Web, Ovid databases (including MEDLINE),
administrative systems, electronic mail, and public Library and Hospital
workstations).
Annual
surveys
Each
year, ITS-Med collaborates with the Cushing/Whitney
Medical Library to survey a representative sample of Medical Center
faculty, staff, students, nurses, and residents. The annual surveys have
provided useful baseline information on who uses which resources and on
the locations in which library and computing resources are used.
Hardware inventories
-
1997 Hardware Inventory for the
Schools of Medicine and Nursing
The hardware inventory will be updated in the near future. The data
source for 1997 came from the Moveable Equipment Inventory (MEI), but the
minimum cost for items included in the MEI is now $2000 and a computer
can easily be purchased for under that amount. We are planning to use
alternate data sources to estimate the 1999 hardware inventory.
