Baillie-Hamilton Island is a small island located within the central regions of the Arctic Archipelago. The island lies within a nearly enclosed body of water created by its larger neighbours. To the east and north, across the Wellington Channel, sits the large Devon Island; to the south, across the Maury Channel, is Cornwallis Island and to the west, across the Queens Channel, Bathurst Island.

Neatly rectangular in shape, Baillie-Hamilton Island measures 26 km in length and 12 km across, covering an area of 219 km². Much of the island's coastline consists of tall cliffs ranging from 20 m to over 100 m in height; the cliffs give way at many locations forming narrow coastal zones backed by steep slopes. Topography within the interior is generally quite flat, with a few hills in the north rising to over 200 m.
