Sillem Island, overview map Sillem Island (482 km²) is the second largest (after the 11,067 km² Bylot Island) of the several hundred islands and islets that are located immediately off the highly indented northern coast of Baffin Island. The island is located deep within Baffin Island's Scott Inlet, with Gibbs Fiord on its eastern side, separating it from the Remote Peninsula, and the Clark Fiord on the west. Guarding the entrance into Scott Inlet is the small Scott Island, located 6.4 km off the northern tip of Sillem Island.

The island rises very sharply from the eastern and western coastlines that face the narrow Clark and Gibbs fiords with precipitous slopes, reaching elevations of 600 m to 700 m above sea level within less than 500 m of the shoreline. The interior of the island consists of a mountainous upland region rising to a height of 1,590 m above sea level that is largely buried beneath a permanent cover of ice and glaciers (see links at top-right for detailed images of these features).
